My name is Ysmael Peguero, I am a current University of Connecticut student majoring in Pre-Medicine in the Biology field. I joined the post in October 2007. I was promoted to Master Patrol Officer in May 2008, Corporal in September of 2008, Sergeant in June of 2009, and Captain in late 2010. I served as the Post Treasurer for 2008 and as Post President for two consecutive years until I was promoted to Captain. I am an assistant webmaster. I attended Phase 1 of the Explorer Police Academy in 2008. I am a mountain bike certified explorer, certified dispatching communication officer, certified quartermaster officer. I served as the supervisor for the Explorer Labor Union in 2010 and as the Explorer SWAT Team Supervisor from 2008-2010. I now currently oversee the post, containing over 150 explorers and perform many community administrative duties for the post. I currently serve as an instructor aid for many law enforcement classes taught by the Advisors. I am also certified as a CT Medical Response Technician and cerified in American Heart Association Heart Saver First Aid/ CPR/ AED, Healthcare Provider CPR. I enjoy working with the Waterbury Police Explorers and I put in a lot of effort into all that i do for the post. I work very hard on my personal time to accomplish things for the post.
The post has been and is a positive learning experience for myself. Police explorers is an excellent program for any juvenile who is interested or may be interested in the law enforcement field or who would like to volunteer in the community and give back to the town or city in which they were and are being raised in. Being an explorer is a privelege that anyone should take advantage of if given the opportunity. There are many chances to gain knowledge of various classes that many people take advantage of on a daily basis but few know the struggle that must be faced so others may have the freedom and protection that they have daily.
